Seed and Nut Gathering Project
The City of Anderson sponsors a city-wide volunteer driven re-forestation project. The volunteers gather the seeds and nuts, sort and process them, and then plant them in areas selected for re-forestation.
The goals for the Fall of 2013 are:
- Collect and sort approximately 3,000 to 5,000 hardwood, shade, understory, fruit tree and shrub seeds and nuts.
- Plant approximately 1,000 various individual nuts and seeds at the tree nursery.
- Stratify / Scarify approximately 2,000 individual nuts and seeds in refrigerated units for Spring 2014 planting.
- Directly plant 1,000 to 2,000 seeds and nuts in selected re-forestation sites.
