Responding to Governor Braun

We deeply oppose Wednesday’s two Executive Orders to create increased barriers to state-level environmental protections (Executive Order 25-38) and prohibit addressing environmental justice (Executive Order 25-37) by Governor Braun. Hoosiers need and deserve to have their air, water, soil, and health be defended by our state. Just as our precious wildlife and rare ecosystems are unique to Indiana, we must hold state-specific policies to protect these places we all love. Regulations that exceed baseline federal rules already are subject to high levels of scrutiny and oversight under Indiana law. This executive order will increase uncertainty and confusion around sensible programs and activities.

We know that environmental justice is supported by science, and that communities of color face documentable disproportionate levels of pollution and lack of access to programs to improve local environmental health. Our rural communities and low income families are also impacted by these orders that ignore the most harmful consequences of industrial activity.

We will never stop working to ensure all Hoosiers can enjoy a safe and flourishing environment and a liveable future.
