MISSION

Earth Charter Indiana exists to inspire and advance sustainable, just and peaceful living in Indiana by promoting the values and principles of the Earth Charter.

Created in 2001 by John Gibson and Jerry King, Earth Charter Indiana is inspired by the Earth Charter declaration at the Peace Palace in The Hague, Netherlands, in 2000. The Earth Charter is a proclamation of fundamental principles for building a just, sustainable and peaceful global society in the twenty-first century. ECI was incorporated as a nonprofit corporation (501C3) in 2004. Earth Charter Indiana is the only U.S. chapter of the Earth Charter and has a fraternal relationship with Earth Charter International.

Climate Leadership Summit - Bi-partisan annual summit for community leaders, city officials, and mayors across Indiana to discuss local climate impacts and solutions 

Climate Camp - Leveraging the intersection of science, art, nature, and advocacy to inspire young environmental stewards

Indiana Thriving Schools Challenge -  Grants up to $5000 for project based, student led, school sustainability projects

Food Equity Ambassador Immersion - Youth leadership opportunity focused on food equity and systems thinking

Proyecto SOL - Bilingual park-based eco-therapy programming for Latinx students

Eco Science Challenge - Encouraging innovative Hoosier students to work towards solutions to current eco-science issues

Youth Environmental Press Team - Providing a platform for high school journalists to write and publish climate and environmental stories

Climate Recovery Resolution - Mentorship and resources to support youth working with municipal leaders on meaningful decisions

Resiliency Coordinators - Advancing local climate action through a statewide network of climate driven community advocates
